Millington Wins 1st Snooker Ranking Event for 2022

2nd Bay Open Snooker win for Millington.

A well stacked field of 40 players that performed on the weekend for the 2022 Bay of Plenty Open Snooker and the long awaited ranking event since August 2021 due to our nasty friend covid being around a lot longer than needed.

4 top 10 players were in the mix to win the the 1st ranking event of 2022 and duly so made there way through section play on Saturday without any upsets along the way and into the last 16 for post knock out rounds on Sunday.

With the semi finals looming it was predicted that it could be 3 time winner of the event Bayden Jackson from Hawkes Bay and newly relocated from Wellington to Papamoa and 2020 winner Lawrence Millington.

As the semi finals went on there was a major upset after Jackson led 2 frames to nil and was looking to do a clean sweep over Graeme Tocker from Waikato but Tocker had other ideas and came back and won the next 3 frames on the spin to make his way into his first final of the Bay Open.

In the other semi Millington dispersed of another local Dean Latus who has been to the final twice and runner up twice.

In the final Tocker won the first frame and looked solid in the all round game but Millington with all his match play experience came away with the final win 3 frames to 1.

Congratulations to Lawrence Millington on his 2nd Bay of Plenty Open Snooker win.

Also Millington picked up the highest break and only century break of the tournament 107.
